What a difference a day and 500km makes!  It was warm and sunny for our tour of the LakesDistrict. The Germans settled here in the 1840s and are very wealthy today.  Lots of picturesque farms, mostly dairy cattle selling milk to Nestle.  There are German pastries everywhere which are quite yummy as well as chocolate that I have so far avoided.  There is a recreated German mill, blacksmith's shop, barn and home that are lovely.  The view of the volcano kept getting better and better every hour we were out.  We had lunch at a German-Chilean restaurant - spit roasted meat including some of the best lamb ever, all kinds of prepared salads, potatoes, bratwurst, pork and sauerkraut as well as those damn pastries.  Not a bad birthday at all.
