HaLong Bay

As predicted, this place was astounding,  After a long bus ride through innumerable small towns with factories, farms and cemeteries, we arrived at the Gulf of Tonkin and Ha Long Bay, home to >1000 limestone islands.  The weather was cool and overcast, but Georgia assures me that it makes for better pictures,  They filmed the latest King Kong movie here.  We got on a small boat and sailed around for 4 hours.  There is not much wild life, we mostly saw black kites (a kind of bird) but no marine mammals or swimming monkeys (apparently they have those here too),  We then went to a fantastic limestone cave.  Oh, and they fed us a “light lunch” on board of shrimp, crab cakes, calamari, fish, cabbage, rice, French fries and bananas.
Our hotel is lovely with a bed large enough to play a game of soccer
on and a giant bathroom with a rainhead shower,  Dinner was a buffet with tons of food, including a grill station with meat and fish cooked to order.  I stuck with the salads and spring rolls - and dessert which was impressive in its variety, presentation and flavor including a chocolate fountain.  Dragonfruit covered in chocolate is mostly fruit, right?
