After Angkor Wat, we went to Angkor Thom, a temple from 200 years later when Cambodia had become completely Buddhist instead of Hindu. The first European explorers to find this covered in the jungle were terrified at all the Buddhas staring at them. The detail in the bas relief is amazing. How did they find so many talented artists in their population? The causeway into the temple is lined with 54 Buddhas on either side, one side “good” Buddhas, one side evil. We saw monkeys alongside the road on the way to lunch. The food is unique - not quite Thai, not quite Vietnamese but very complex and delicious.
After lunch I went to the Old Market which is loaded with everything - food, clothes, jewelry, housewares. Bargaining is expected and I got a pair of Cambodian pants for $3. Afterwards went for a lovely foot and neck massage - a bargain at $12 for an hour.
It’s a pain to post pictures and caption them, so I am going to make a separate post for dinner.
